Detective Hawkins "Hawk" Wilson Hibbs Jr. (Ret.)December 12, 1946 — February 16, 2025

Hawkins “Hawk” Wilson Hibbs Jr., 78, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.

A funeral service to honor Hawk’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 21 at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Bob Lowery. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Hawk was born on December 12, 1946, in Carteret County, NC, to the late Hawkins and Nancy Hibbs. He served his country as a United States Marine, completing a tour in Vietnam. After his military service, he dedicated himself to law enforcement, becoming the first detective in Smithfield, Rhode Island. Later, he continued his career as a police officer in Havelock, NC before transitioning to work at Cherry Point as a logistics manager for the Harrier Program.

Hawk enjoyed music, motorcycles, camping, skydiving, hunting, and racing. He was the proud crew chief of Area 81 and an active member of the Twin Rivers Corvette Club. He also led the CBA Chapter Motorcycle Club, sharing his love for the open road with fellow enthusiasts. In his later years, Hawk found friendship as a member of the “Old Man’s Breakfast Club.” He was a devoted family man who cherished the time spent with his loved ones.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Christina Leister of Newport, NC; sons, Matthew Hibbs (Amanda) of Newport, NC, and Thomas Hibbs of Newport, NCa; sister, Lisa Hunter (James) of Chepachet, RI; brother, David Hibbs (Carlene) of Brooklyn, CT; grandchildren, Taylor, Britta, Hailey, Brett, Chloe, Dylan, Logan; great-grandchildren, Vincent, Jack, Alessia, and a precious girl on the way; and loving step-children.
