Richard John Smith, Littlerock resident. Born Dec. 25, 1939, in Central Falls, R.I., died July 23, 2005, after a long illness. He was an Air Force veteran assigned to the Strategic Air Command from 1958 to 1962. After completing his tour of duty he held various jobs until becoming a police officer with the Los Angeles Police Department. His division assignments included Foothill, Central, Newton and Wilshire. After leaving the force in 1972, he returned to Rhode Island and continued his Law Enforcement career at the Smithfield Police Department, working various assignments including in the Patrol, Traffic Enforcement and Detective Divisions. He returned to California in 1977, working at Lockheed-Martin on the B-2 Bomber Project until his retirement in 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; mother-in-law, Juanita Alcott; his son, Shawn and daughter-in-law Karen; his daughter Rachel (Rick) Davidson; step-daughters Laura (Steve) Owen; Vicky (Dave) Healy; and Bonnie Knagle, grandchildren include Tammie, Erica, Michael, Chris and Stephen, great-grand-children are Miranda, Marcus and Marysa. Life-long friends include Jane Mulligan, Brian Burke, Jim Espinosa, Norm Kellum and Jim Brousseau.
We will always love you Dad. The world will never be the same.
Visitation will be held July 28, 2005 at the Halley-Olsen-Murphy Memorial Chapel and Crematory, Palmdale.
